No Post Day: Time Off For Lighter Behaviour

“Heart’s A Mess”; Gotye
…careful, you’ll want to watch it all afternoon.
Let me know if the YouTube isn’t available.

Once again I am totally ripping this idea off from Anita Marie, who mostly blogs at Irregular Bones. I spent six hours yesterday preparing and posting a 2,650 word heart-wrenching extravaganza I knew no one was going to read (it’s okay, but if you’re into it… hint: it’s the one below this one), so today I’m just asking a question, then I’m going to pop open a 2L bottle of Diet Pepsi, crank up the “Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs” and plow my way through a few levels of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. Ah, No Post Day… truly You are bliss.

So if you’ve got the time my question is:

What blogs have helped you in your recovery from manic depression? OR, if your genes are clean, what blogs would you recommend someone (me) have in their (my) blogroll? Although a ‘Why’ would be nice, it’s not necessary and most kinds of porn are totally acceptable answers.

About Gabriel...

...diagnosed with manic depression when I was nineteen, for the next 14-years I lived without treatment or a recovery plan. I've been homeless, one time I graduated college, I've won awards for reporting on Internet privacy issues, and a weekly humour column. In 2002 I finally hit bottom and found help. It's now 2022, and I have an 8-year old son, and a 12-year old son... I’m usually about six feet tall, and I'm pretty sure I screwed up my book deal. I mostly blog at saltedlithium.com....

the Gotye video is no longer available 😦

    I have a great Yeah yeah yeahs t-shirt 🙂

I’d recommend Renal Failure for your blogroll. even when I’m feeling really low he usually makes me smile (lopsidedly)

Try the video again, I think I had the privacy settings set too high on my account.

Which would totally suck because that means a bunch of YouTubes I’ve posted have said the same thing to anyone trying to watch them… those fucking gargantuan monolith social websites are bastards for not letting me post otherwise copyrighted material freely and without consequence on my blog.

    YYY’s are freaking AWESOME.

Writing on my site (and polluting yours with my comments) helps me realize I’m not alone. Having others around to validate what I’m feeling as normal for BPD is HUGE.

  4. Gabriel... says:

Yeah… but which sites? I’m looking for stuff for my blogroll and you’re already in there and putting myself in seems a little greedy.

i adore the blog, heroes not zombies, it’s one of the best blogs on wordpress, in my opinion. bob’s a doctor, but a very unique physician, and an even more diverse person — his posts vary a great deal, but they’re always well informed, interesting, and exceptionally human. he also dabbles in photography. i just really love his entire take on the whole life experience. while his blog doesn’t center around mental health issues, his professional philosophies seldom ignore the mind/body approaches to health, and approaches to medicine. i just can’t say enough good things about his blog. if i weren’t already addicted to lager, i’d be addicted to bob. he’s just very well rounded, interesting, informative, and uplifting. i think you’d enjoy him.

    good luck on your search.

now that was just f’n funny!

  7. bromac says:

This is going to sound ridiculous, but yours. I don’t ever even comment. I just read. You have given me a ton of insight into the disease. Often your explanations of facets of BP are so “on” that I forward them to my husband, b/c, there would be no possible way for me to explain to him that aspect of the disease the way that you do.

Your personal struggles, your dark humor, and your insight have truly helped me.

I have only read two other blogs by writers with BP. One stopped blogging and I became disillusioned with the others’ self-destructive actions.

No I will go back into hiding. Thank you for telling your stories.

  8. justinmohareb says:

I have a few guys I know via LJ who have the same disease, and I often think of posting something to direct people to your blog, but that’s usually when you say something really mean to me and I decide not to.

  9. Gabriel... says:

bromac: that’s very kind, and it’s not ridiculous as all… I was just explaining to someone yesterday that whenever someone puts me into their blogroll, or even just reads my posts, an Angel gets her Lithium.

Let me know if there’s a non-bipolar blog you read.

Mohareb: If you can tear yourself away from your LiveJournal-JuniorBlog for a minute maybe you can leave a few sites you’d recommend someone have in their blogroll…

  10. nursemyra says:

so you’ve added my recommendation to your blogroll but not me…

doesn’t the gimcrack make you laugh?

    sometimes?

  11. Gabriel... says:

Holy crap, you’re right. And I actually invented that “000 Recently Found” section in my blogroll for gimcrack … then I didn’t put it in there. Well, dammit, it’s there now… and yes your blog does make me laugh. And cringe occasionally. But mostly laugh. And cringe. And sometimes sweat. But there is a lot of laughter. From me.

  12. Anita Marie says:

I’d have to say that writing helps me focus so that means when I focus the depression can’t creep in- so I really try to feed the brain some good things on a regular basis.

These are three of my favorite blogs ( well..you know besides yours Gabriel 🙂 BECAUSE they make me want to become a better writer.

    Here they are:
    The Show Must Go On
    http://cinemagypsy.wordpress.com/
    Kitty makes real life fun

    Celluloid Blonde
    http://celluloidblonde.wordpress.com/
Max makes has fun with life

    Beyond The Blog
