No Post Day | Mom’s Birthday

It’s my mom’s birthday today… I haven’t written a lot about my mother. I probably should.

Back in the day she was at the airport in Montreal when the Rolling Stones first came to Canada. She also sat about an inch away from the television screen and watched them on the Ed Sullivan Show. She liked the Beatles, but preferred the Stones. She’s always been a rocker.

Anyway… in a few hours I’ll be at the flower shop, and I’ll get a card and I’m looking for something else as well. Last year I got her a decent sized pink fuzzy bear with “Love” tattooed over its chest. It also had a pink toque with a heart.

So if anyone has any idea better than that… cough, I’m sure my mother would appreciate it…

.

And for anyone willing to play along on this sacred No Post Day, what have you bought your mother lately? Or, what have your kids bought you that made you think, for at least that moment, it has been worth keeping them around?

.

...thanks.

.

  1. No idea f this is too late to post but I got a handbag for my mum this year and at christmas I got her a spa card with money on it. Basically she can use that any time in a fair few spas/health resorts to pamper herself etc. No idea if you have these in Canada though.

    Can’t say I didn’t try though lol.
    Take care x

The best thing my son ever gave me was a note about why he thought I was a good mom. It didn’t cost him anything, but to me it’s priceless.

  3. Poor Kipling.

I actually bought my mom a jar full of small personalized envelopes/cards with dead soppy notes inside… I know it was the best gift I’ve given her yet, she loved it.

I agree with Zoom. Sweet & simple is best.

Hope your mom has a fantastic birthday 🙂

The flowers and card have been delivered… I’m still looking for something else. The card said something like “Happy Birthday [blah blah] and I hope you have a great year” so I added “but only one, then it’s straight back to the mill.”

  6. Snort. Very touching 😉

I have yet to get a gift from my kids for any occasion, but they write me love notes, and bring me art.

My mum was thrilled when I got her a large gift card to Wool N Things, but she’s a knitting fiend 😉

This is the… fourth year in a row I’ve gotten something for mom on her birthday. Birthday’s and holiday’s were just not done… I had my first real birthday party when I was eight. Mom, after we left my father, always made sure my brother and I had a birthday party. But I’ve never been good at remembering or getting too jacked up for anyone’s birthday. Once I started thinking clearer, as my recovery progressed, I saw how much it meant to mom so here we are…

She called about an hour ago and was just ecstatic about the card and flowers.

For my mother, it’s vintage Tupperware. As for what I’d like from my kids, I’d love it if they’d clean my car.

I think Zoom’s idea is great. Failing that, I gave my mom a bonzai tree for her last birthday. But moms usually hate it when you spend money on them, especially if you’re not well off. The note is perfect.

i once baked my mom a lemon merang (sp) pie for her 50th birthday and she loved it. no card. no chocolates. no flowers. just the pie. sadly she died 9 days later. not from the pie though.

enjoy the day with your mom.

(ps. been to your site often but this is the first i have commented. like it.)

Thanks for the suggestion Raino, and thanks for commenting. I’ve definitely never baked for mom, but I did cook for her a couple of months ago… I think that might have been the first time

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions, and for playing along on this most sacred of No Post Days. I’m pretty sure I’ve decided on having a photo of my brother and I enlarged and put into a nice frame. But now that it’s a few days late maybe it can be a Christmas gift.
